Regarding the so-called “Dokdo Day” event hosted by Japan’s Shimane Prefecture on Saturday, February 22, and participation by a high-level official of Japan’s central government, the government of the Republic of Korea strongly protests against Japan’s reiteration of unjust sovereignty claims over Dokdo and sternly calls for the immediate abolition of the event.

The Japanese government must immediately stop making unjustified claims over Dokdo, which is clearly an integral part of the ROK territory historically, geographically, and under international law, and squarely face history in a humble manner.
